Cases of Covid-19 in Japan back ‘crazy’, following China which also currently has high daily infection rates.
On Saturday (12/24), Sakura State recorded 177,739 new cases with daily cases up to nearly 19 thousand cases from the previous day, as quoted by Japan Times.
To collect Kyodo newsJapan also reported 371 deaths related to the corona virus on December 23. This number is the highest since the beginning of the Covid-19 virus epidemic.
The previous highest death rate occurred on September 2, i.e. 347 cases when the seventh wave of Covid-19 occurred in Japan.
Currently, the number of deaths in Japan is in the spotlight, especially since many cases are donated by children.
Why are Covid-19 cases in Japan going crazy again?
On October 11, Japan began to end a string of strict border regulations that had been implemented up to that point, citing Channel News Asia. The easing of rules is said to be one of the reasons for the surge in Covid-19 cases in Japan.
Even the Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, recently began announcing the reopening of his tourism to improve the country’s economy. As a result, nearly one million tourists visited Japan in November, as reported by Reuters.
The winter that is currently hitting Tokyo is also suspected to be the cause, as cited by Japan Times. This is because when the eighth wave occurred last November, one of Japan’s regions, namely the island of Hokkaido, experienced a sharp spike with 850 cases per 100,000 people.
Advisory Committee chairman Takaji Wakita said winter in Hokkaido made it difficult for area residents to provide adequate ventilation, as quoted by Kyodo news.
As a result, the air circulation is not smooth and the residents who are at home are inevitably infected.
Aside from that, Takaji also pointed to the mobility of residents and declining immunity as one of the triggers for the cold zone to record many cases.
