Medan, CNN Indonesia –
Governor of North Sumatra (North Sumatra) Edy rahmayadi admitted to contacting the President Commissioner of PT Pertamina (Persero) Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok on the increase in the price of Fuel Oil (BBM) in its territory.
It is known, the non-subsidized fuel rate in North Sumatra has increased by IDR 200 per liter since April 1, 2021. The people of North Sumatra believe that the increase occurred due to adjustments to changes in the Motor Vehicle Fuel Tax (PBBKB) rate specifically for non-subsidized fuel from 5.5 percent to 7.5 percent in the North Sumatra region.
This is stated in the Regulation of the Governor of North Sumatra Number 1 of 2021 concerning the Implementation Guidelines for PBBKB.
The residents also protested to Edy, who immediately asked Ahok to ask about the non-subsidized fuel price hike.
“If this is the problem, Pertamina is in the wrong. I immediately called Ahok. Ahok I called him because he was the Pertamina Commut. Hey Ahok, why did you raise fuel because of my Pergub? Then (Ahok) answered, ‘There’s no such thing, Bang’ , “said Edy, Wednesday (5/5).
Edy then explained that the change in PBBKB was related to the economic condition of North Sumatra, which was experiencing a contraction in economic growth. Noted, North Sumatra’s economic growth is minus 1.07 percent in 2021.
Therefore, he issued a Pergub regarding an increase in the PBBKB rate specifically for non-subsidized fuel from 5.5 percent to 7.5 percent in the North Sumatra region. The goal is to compensate for the economic contraction.
“That’s (economic growth) which is 5.22 percent (in 2020), in 2021 it will be minus 1.07 percent. Where should you find the money to cover this? Okay, I will increase PBBKB 2.5 percent, we made a Pergub then. communicate with Commission C, “he explained.
Meanwhile, he decided not to increase PBBKB in 2020. In fact, a number of other provinces raised PBBKB rates at that time.
According to him, the increase in PBBKB should not need to be discussed. This is because PBBKB is like ‘foreign exchange reserves’ which fall under the authority of the governor. In fact, there is room for an increase of up to 10 percent.
“Okay, signed by Commission C, I got Rp303 billion. So I still have 2.5 percent more reserves. If this doesn’t catch up again, I will increase it again to 10 percent,” he said.
Previously, the North Sumatra Regional Unit Manager for Communication, Relations & CSR, Taufikurachman, confirmed that the fuel price hike was in line with the Governor Regulation regarding the Implementation Guidelines for PBBKB. In the regulation there is a change in the PBBKB rate for North Sumatra to 7.5 percent.
“In accordance with the circular letter of the North Sumatra Provincial Secretary, as of April 1, 2021, Pertamina has made a special price adjustment for non-subsidized fuel throughout the North Sumatra region,” he said.
Confirmed separately, Ahok confirmed that he received a call from Edy. After the conversation with Edy, he admitted asking for an explanation from his subordinates at Pertamina.
Furthermore, he has received confirmation that the increase in non-subsidized BBN is the result of the Pergub regarding the change in PBBKB.
“It is true that there was a phone call and I said I wanted to check, and then I did get an answer because of adjusting the Pergub,” he told CNNIndonesia.com.
