Why haven’t I bought a Nintendo Switch yet? I’m already answering

TV, good headphones, etc. Switch has tried to avoid these hurdles by offering the game in handheld or docked mode. Gamers choose the portable variant more often, although there are exceptions. Games work fine here, although there is a catch to all of this.

Only for Nintendo

With Nintendo consoles from the dawn of time, only games written by the parent company’s studios, or associated ones, tasted the best. There was an exception when Capcom signed a pact with Nintendo to release five games for the Japanese giant’s equipment, namely the famous Capcom 5. The love story did not last long and in the history of both companies there was no longer such a collaboration. . Although several parts of Resident Evil have come to Switch, I still regret that Capcom has not decided on a part dedicated to this console. Referring to the memory when Nintendo DS reigned, we were able to create, for example, an interesting port of the classic Resident Evil, or Deadly Silence. The Switch hasn’t received a game like this yet. The Wii also received two gifts as part of the scope, RE Umbrella and The Darkside Chronicles.

One of the reasons I haven’t decided to buy a Switch yet is the lack of a dedicated installment of my favorite series. The cycle itself is present here, but it’s all in the form of doors. Too bad a larger retro corner hasn’t been curated in the eshop for a look at the classic Resident Evil from the Nintendo 64 version, considered one of the most difficult and most impressive transfers in history. Nintendo games are best played on the Switch. The extensive The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or Super Mario Odyssey are worth checking out, no doubt. The console has also received very well from the WiiU, although I’m surprised by the absence of updated versions of Twilight Princess and Wind Waker, the best games of the GameCube and Wii era. Games from other platforms play fine, although this is not the quality known by the competition, which is a pity. This has always been a problem with Nintendo consoles: games from third-party publishers either performed worse or were cut out of content. It was like this in the past, it is like this today, although it has been transferred very well, i.e. The Witcher 3 or Destiny.

Some shortcomings

Undefined

I’m not anti-Switch. The fact is that this console has introduced a very unconventional approach to gameplay, offering two game modes. In productions like Breath of the Wild, you can dive up to your ears. In fact, in this game you just hit something. I appreciate this approach, as well as Nintendo’s successes and influence on generations of gamers. However, several aspects need significant improvement. First, the question of the media. Unfortunately, the Switch only offers YouTube, Hulu or Fumination. Still no sign of Netflix, Disney or Amazon Prime. All gaming platforms offer it. I don’t buy the eternal “Nintendo goes its own way” argument. The second is the question of the price, or rather its constant level. We pay the same price for almost every game signed with the day-of-release Nintendo logo. Unfortunately, this is true. Nintendo is very popular and in this respect I consider the company to be the equivalent of Apple. Are you counting on a drop in the price of the gorgeous looking OLED Switch? I wish you patience.

Also, there is no backwards compatibility via media. You must pay to access the Nintendo Retrozone. It’s rather unpro-consumer and unfortunately it’s another reason why I haven’t decided to buy a console yet. It’s a shame that Nintendo hasn’t decided to change that with subsequent console models. Of Ninny’s previous platforms, only the GameCube and Nintendo 64 would not play older games, due to media and lack of online access, which was too early for that. The switch should give us this option right away. The Nintendo game library is quite extensive, although it is undeniable that most of them have already appeared on WiiU and only the premature death of this console would allow these productions to be released on Switch, such as Mario Kart 8 in the Deluxe version. There’s another reason that annoys me a little, but it shouldn’t. It’s the lack of an achievement system in the game. I’m used to building personal progress with trophies or results, it’s always an additional motivation, even if I thought otherwise before. All in all, the Switch is attractive hardware, but it still has a lot of room for improvement. Perhaps Nintendo will take these aspects into consideration when they finish work on the successor. Because it has probably been around for a long time.
