Actually, I’ve always liked the three question marks best. But now I prefer to read the Five Friends – at least the original stories by Enid Blyton, I don’t need the modern stories either.
With the three question marks, it was too exaggerated for me at some point. That had nothing to do with adventurous children / adolescents. At some point the three question marks had all the professional equipment, got involved with super villains, and kept breaking laws. At some point it was all just routine: Bob goes to the library, Peter breaks open doors and in the end Jupiter finds everything on his own.
With the Five Friends – at least with Enid Blyton’s books – everything is a good deal more down-to-earth. Four friends, plus a dog, who spend their holidays together and experience harmless adventures. Children who buy milk on the farm, pack sandwiches and picnic by the rivers. I think the Five Friends are much more realistic. But I emphasize again that I only know the old books by Enid Blyton.
