In the digital era and technology that is increasingly developing rapidly, the phenomenon of sleepiness and fatigue seems to be one of the challenges faced by Gen Z. This generation, consisting of individuals born between the mid-1990s to the early 2010s, grew and developed in an environment full of visual stimulation and a constant flow of information.

However, despite having unlimited access to various entertainment and information, generation Z is often found to experience excessive sleepiness. A number of factors can be identified as the cause of why generation Z tends to feel sleepy easily.

1. High Level of Screen Exposure

One of the main factors contributing to sleepiness among generation Z is the high level of screen exposure from various digital devices such as smartphone, tablets, and computers. Research has shown that the blue light emitted by electronic screens can disrupt the production of the hormone melatonin which regulates the body’s sleep and wake rhythms. Exposure to blue light can disrupt sleep patterns, make sleep less restful, and ultimately cause sleepiness during the day.

2. Lack of Strong Sleep

The demands of busy schedules, schoolwork, part-time jobs, and social pressure in the form of social media can cause generation Z to often sacrifice their sleep. In fact, adequate and quality sleep is very important for physical and mental health and well-being. Lack of sleep can disrupt circadian rhythms and result in accumulated fatigue during the day, which often leads to feelings of excessive sleepiness.

3. Digital Pollution and Information Overload

Generation Z lives in a world full of constantly moving and unlimited information. However, this information overload can be a significant psychological burden. Pressure to always “update” and being connected to the latest news and the lives of friends in cyberspace can cause stress and anxiety which ultimately results in restless sleep.

4. Lack of physical activity

A lifestyle that tends to be spent more indoors with various electronic devices can reduce the time spent on physical activity. Sufficient physical activity has been shown to help maintain quality sleep and energy during the day. Lack of physical movement can cause feelings of tiredness and sleepiness.

5. Mental Health Disorders
