For several months now, the EU countries have been (with difficulty) debating the reforms that are needed in the bloc to accelerate the energy transition. France, a staunch supporter of nuclear energy, persists in its position: nuclear energy should be considered green in European texts.
Why is this important?
With the aim of accelerating the energy transition, European countries are trying to agree on new targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The problem is that they agree (more or less) on the numbers to be achieved, but not on the way to achieve those goals. There is a conflict between two camps: France (for nuclear energy) versus Germany (against nuclear energy).In the news: France reaffirms its determination.
- On Thursday, French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire delivered a new “pro-nuclear energy” speech.
