“Why Emma Watson took a break from acting and what she’s doing now: Interview with Financial Times”

Emma Watson hasn’t acted since December 2018 because it didn’t make her happy and it made her feel “trapped”.

That says the 33-year-old actress, who has become known worldwide for her role as Hermione in the Harry Pottermovies, in an interview with the Financial Times.

“To be honest, I wasn’t happy. And I felt a little trapped. What was really hard for me was that I had to start selling something that I had no control over,” says Watson. For example, she sometimes found it difficult to tell journalists how a certain film represented her vision. “It was very difficult to be the face and the spokesperson for things that I was not involved with in terms of content.”

Watson finds it “frustrating” that she was sometimes held responsible for a particular film. “I didn’t always have a say or a voice. It made me realize that I only want to do things that I support myself.”

She feels comfortable in the role of director. The actress was recently allowed to direct an advertising campaign for the fashion brand Prada. “Directing something myself seemed unattainable to me and I didn’t expect that I would have the self-confidence for it. But I do seem to understand it and it is something that I can put my creativity into.”

A return to the film world closes the Harry Potteractress not out. “But I think it’s better to wait for a project that really feels right.”
