Dog owner liability is essential
The reason: If the animal does something, the owner is liable with his private assets, explains the Insurance Law Working Group in the German Lawyers’ Association (DAV). Therefore, a dog owner liability insurance is indispensable.
This insurance should apply from the first day of keeping a dog. Except for biting incidents, such a policy covers accidents caused by the dog. Veterinary interventions as a result of biting between two dogs or because of unwanted mating should also be included.

If you have been the victim of a dog accident yourself, it is important to obtain and record the owner’s contact details. If medical treatment is necessary, the health insurance company will contact the owner in the event of an animal accident and claim the treatment costs there.
