Why does tremor or tremor occur? … Learn how to deal with and treat it

Followed – Suzan Hassan

Who among us does not suffer from or does not know someone who suffers from tremor or tremor?
But what is this situation and what are its causes? How is the treatment? We will learn all of this in this article.

Tremor can be defined as an involuntary muscle contraction that leads to jerky movements in one or more parts of the body.It is a common motor disorder that often affects the hands but can manifest itself in the arms, head, vocal cords, trunk, and in the legs too.

Although tremors can occur at any age, they occur more often in middle-aged adults and the elderly, and the disorder generally affects men and women alike, and the tremor can be intermittent (occurring at separate times) or constant.

Tremors are classified as:

1- Essential or benign essential tremor: This is one of the most common types and usually affects the hands, but can also affect the head, voice, tongue, legs and trunk.

2- Parkinson’s tremor: it is a common symptom in people with Parkinson’s disease. It usually affects one or both hands when at rest, but can affect the chin, lips, face, and legs.

3- Nervous tremor: A nervous tremor occurs in people suffering from dystonia, which is a movement disorder in which muscle contractions are involuntary and contractions cause repetitive movements and can affect any muscle in the body.

Tremor causes:
The root cause of tremor is unknown, but it often occurs due to a problem in the deep parts of the brain that control movement, and it can also occur due to genetics and other factors, including the following:

1_ Taking certain medications such as asthma medications, amphetamines, caffeine and medications used in some mental and neurological disorders.

2_ Neurological disorders including multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, stroke and brain injury.

3_ Anxiety or panic.

4_ Hyperthyroidism.

5_ Abstain from alcohol.

6_ mercury poisoning.

7_ hepatic or renal insufficiency.

8_ Low blood sugar level.

9_ old age

Tremor treatment:

A person’s symptoms may be mild enough not to require treatment, and while there is no cure for most forms of tremor, treatment options are available to help control symptoms or to eliminate tremors caused by problems with health by using multiple treatments.

For example, if the tremor is caused by taking a drug, stopping the tremor can reduce or eliminate the tremor, and the tremor caused by hyperthyroidism will improve or resolve with treatment of the thyroid disorder.

If there are no underlying causes of the tremor that can be changed, available treatment options include:

Medicines that include:

• Beta blockers are usually used to treat high blood pressure, but they also help treat essential tremor.

Antiepileptic drugs are effective in people with tremor who do not respond to beta blockers.

Sedatives, which can temporarily stop shivering.

Parkinson’s disease drugs for the treatment of tremor associated with Parkinson’s disease.

Botulinum toxin injections, which can treat almost all types of tremors, are especially helpful for tremors that generally don’t respond to medication but can cause muscle weakness.

Surgery: A doctor may recommend surgeries such as deep brain stimulation when people do not respond to drug treatments or experience severe tremor that significantly affects their daily life, but some of the more common side effects of tremor surgery include dysphasia (speech problems) and balance problems.

Focused ultrasound: Treatment is approved for those individuals with essential tremor who do not respond well to medications.

Physiotherapy, speech language, and occupational therapy can all help control tremor.A physical therapist can help people improve muscle control, performance, and strength by doing more exercises and using weights.

Finally, may you be well, healthy and peaceful.
