In French, the term “snooze” means to take a nap. This is what you do in the morning when you choose to snooze your alarm clock, take a nap. But oddly, this sleep rab varies depending on your smartphone.
On Android, you can select several durations of 5, 10, or even 15 minutes, while on iPhone the snooze is 9 minutes by default. Why 9 minutes and not 10? Or 5? Or 7? According to the YouTube channel Apple Explained, there are several possible reasons.
Two hypotheses stand out
First, in traditional watchmaking the snooze is 9 minutes, and Apple is known to strictly follow the codes of the early watchmakers. Even today, it’s unclear why watchmakers set the snooze at 9 minutes, but Apple has reportedly chosen to follow that standard. During the presentation of the various Apple Watch models, watch specialists were even invited on stage.
I take this opportunity to share with you the reason why the IV is registered IIII on traditional watches:
There is a second hypothesis detailed in the video, but the latter seems unlikely. According to Apple Explained, it would have been easier for developers to use the number 9 rather than 10. An explanation that is difficult to understand when we know the broad skills of the developers who work for Apple. In our opinion, the first explanation seems to correspond more to the real reason for this default setting.
Whatever the reason, iPhone users are forced to rely on a 9-minute snooze, obviously with the option of delaying the ringtone several times, which is not much recommended between us. However, there is a solution to fix it … switch to Android.
For the faithful of the Cupertino company, there are fortunately a multitude of alarm clock applications that allow you to adjust the snooze setting as you wish.
