Why do we sneeze?
First of all, sneezing naturally has a physical function. You get dust particles out of the body with this. To stimulate this, your nose gets a stimulus. For example, in the case of allergies, such as hay fever, your body reacts badly to grass pollen, which then has to leave your body.
Learned
Striking: the way we sneeze is partly learned. In the Netherlands, for example, they make a different sound than in other countries. The way your parents sneeze is also decisive, and ensures that you adopt this way.
Another proof that sneezing is learned is that deaf people hardly make a sound. After all, they have never heard that people make noise when they sneeze.
Difference in personality
Another determining factor is your personality. Extroverts tend to sneeze louder. The voice then participates in breathing in and out when sneezing. Introverts tend to keep it subdued, according to scientific research. “You actually decide what you allow,” says Dr. Kox to RTL Nieuws.
