Why do they rate the film as one of the “worst of the century”? – Publinews – 2024-03-05 18:36:37

The film “Mea Culpa,” directed by Tyler Perry, has received negative reviews and is considered by many to be one of the “worst films of the century.” Despite having an outstanding cast and being a legal thriller, it has failed to captivate the audience and has generated disappointment.

The film has been harshly criticized for having an overloaded plot with complicated plot twists and exaggeratedly melodramatic dialogues that fail to connect with the viewer. The lack of coherence in the story and the unrealistic dialogue have been recurring points of criticism.

Recent reviews

The film has received negative reviews, reflected in its low score on the website Rotten Tomatoes (17%) and IMDb (4.1/10).

These scores indicate that less than a fifth of critics have rated it positively. Lack of originality and widespread disappointment have contributed to these unfavorable reviews.

In a review for The Guardian, critic Benjamin Lee gave the film two stars and noted:

“As you can predict from reading the synopsis, the plot is very overloaded. The actors are terrible and they get stuck with exaggeratedly melodramatic dialogues that only serve as filler.”

”It may start out as an erotic thriller, but then it turns into a boring romantic drama until it reaches the climax, which is based on convoluted and nonsensical plot twists,” he concluded.

For his part, Jospeh Robinson of Fish Jelly Films noted: ”Anyone who has seen more than three episodes of Dateline and had sex more than twice could write a better erotic thriller.”

”With poor directing decisions, lame dialogue, and unnecessary plot twists, Perry’s latest film is best viewed as a lame guilty pleasure,” ScreenRant’s Brittany Witherspoon wrote.

Despite criticism from several prominent columnists, the film was positioned on Netflix within the top 10 most viewed titles this weekend.
