According to the study, quoted by Deutsche Welle, the lowest paid people in Germany are those who receive less than 2,284 euros gross monthly salary in full-time employment.
This pay is more than a third lower than the average monthly income for full-time and full-time people who pay their social security contributions in Germany. According to official statistics, the average gross salary in the country in 2020 amounted to 3975 euros.
The fact is that certain groups of the working population in Germany are particularly affected by lower pay, even though they work full time. We are talking about women, young people, foreigners without German citizenship and those who have not completed a professional qualification.
In addition, the percentage of low-paid people in East Germany is still higher than in West Germany.
The good news is that the share of people receiving low wages in Germany is falling. “In recent years, the low-paid segment has been successfully shrinking,” said study author Helge Emler. In East Germany, this process is even faster.
The study found that more than 25% of women and only about 15% of men fall into the group of low-paid full-time people in Germany. But even among higher wages, the gender gap speaks for itself: according to official statistics, the average gross salary for men across the country is 4,146 euros a month, and for women – 3,578 euros. But, of course, professional qualifications also play an important role in remuneration.
If only 5 percent of graduates receive low salaries, among people with vocational education this percentage is over 17 percent, and among those who have no qualifications, as much as 40 percent.
A good salary in Germany depends a lot on where you live and work. In cities and densely populated industrial regions, where large employers from industry, finance, administration and science are concentrated, the percentage of low-paid workers is very small.
The data on the different professions are especially interesting. There, the pay gap is huge. It is noteworthy that the most affected by poor pay are two categories of full-time workers: people in the hotel and restaurant industry and hired or posted workers.
Many Bulgarian citizens fall into these two groups, where about 68-69% of people have to put up with low pay. More than half of those employed in agriculture and forestry also receive low wages. While the least affected by poor pay are those working in the public sector, finance and insurance, metallurgy and the electrical industry.
