In the United States, people use an Apple iPhone longer than an Android device. This is evident from research by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners. In the country, the number of iPhone users and Android users is said to be split approximately 50/50. However, Android phones appear to sell far more than iPhones every year.
Do iPhones last longer?
According to the researchers, this shows that people are more likely to buy a new Android phone to use, while iPhone users apparently use their device for longer. At first, that would make sense from an update perspective: Apple keeps updating iPhones for quite a long time. We now see that Android providers are also continuing to update longer and longer.
90 percent of people with an iPhone have used their phone for more than a year, while that is 77 percent of Android users. A significant difference, which also continues if you look at 1 to 2 years. 43 percent of Android users in the US have used their phones for 2 or more years, versus 61 percent of iPhone users.
More choice = more temptation
The research agency believes that the difference is partly due to the fact that Android devices are usually cheaper, making it easier to choose another device. iPhones may also be more sustainable than Androids: they last longer, the research agency says. Although we agree with the statement about prices, the statement about how long iPhones last is not entirely true. Many Android devices are made of plastic, which can withstand a blow better than glass iPhones.
It is likely that it is also the choice you have as an Android user that makes you more likely to upgrade. There are more devices, more brands, more price ranges and more skins to choose from, versus iPhones that are very similar in design. Because of all that choice, you are more likely to be tempted to purchase a new device.
Do you think there could be another reason why people use an iPhone longer than an Android device? Leave it in the comments now.
