Why Do Fruits Grow in Certain Seasons?

KOMPAS.com – Indonesia is located in the tropics. This makes a lot of fruit that thrives in Indonesia. Even so, there are fruits that can bear fruit throughout the year and there are also fruits that only bear fruit in certain seasons or months. How could that be?

Many types of plants will only flower if they match the intensity sunlight, temperature or humidity of a certain air. If it is flowering, then the plant will start producing fruit.

Indonesia actually benefits because it is located close to the equator. This makes the temperature difference in various regions in Indonesia not too significant. As a result, most of the fruit will be easy to grow in Indonesia.

Some kinds of fruit can even grow all year round. However, some other types of fruit are more sensitive so they only grow in certain months. Generally, these more sensitive plants will grow in the summer.

In summer, the intensity of the sun is enough to help plant metabolism and photosynthesis. On the other hand, on rainy seasonthe intensity of the sun is reduced so that it is not enough to produce fruit.

In addition, the fall of rainwater can also interfere with the pollination process. Pollen on flowers may be washed away by rainwater before it can fertilize the stigma. This makes it harder for fruits to grow in the rainy season.

Fruits that grow all season

Even so, take it easy because Indonesia has many types of fruits that continue to grow throughout the year for consumption. The fruit that grows throughout the season is as follows:

• Jackfruit
• Pineapple
• Snakefruit
• Sawo

But keep in mind that these fruits also have peak months where the harvest exceeds other months. As explained above, this could be the result of various natural factors. One of them is the rainy season which may reduce the amount of fruit produced due to a decreased fertilization rate.
