Mumbai: Why did India lose the ODI World Cup final despite having full confidence to win? Team India head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma answered BCCI’s question. Dravid told the BCCI that the pitch was the reason India lost in the final despite performing well throughout the series. Rohit backed Dravid up when he gave the startling explanation that the pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad was the reason for the team’s defeat.
Both had a private meeting with BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, Vice President Rajeev Shukla and Treasurer Ashish Shelar. India did not benefit in batting as they did not get enough turn on the pitch. Rohit said that the pitch did not help the team to score as high as expected. The final was also played at the same stadium where the match against Pakistan was played earlier in the World Cup. But when India got a good win against Pakistan by chasing the score, they were batted first in the final match and collapsed. The India-Australia World Cup final was held on November 19.
