Why did the two valedictorians of block A00 fail NV1 of Hanoi University of Science and Technology?

(PLO)- With the standard calculation method of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the entrance exam scores for the Computer Science major of the 2 valedictorians of block A00 only reached 29.21.

According to the announcement of the admission benchmark of Hanoi University of Science and Technology this afternoon (August 22), Computer Science got the highest score with 29.42 points.

The two valedictorians of A00 nationwide with 29.35 points are Nguyen Manh Thang – a former student of Bac Giang High School for the Gifted, and Nguyen Manh Hung – a former student of Trung Vuong High School (Hung Yen province). ) – both fail NV1 in this major.

Explaining this incident, a representative of Hanoi University of Science and Technology said that for many years, Hanoi University of Science and Technology has considered the benchmark by doubling the main subject, which is Math.

The formula for calculating the standard score of Computer Science is as follows: Admission score = (Math x 2 + Subject 2 + Subject 3) x 3/4 + Priority score.

With the above calculation, students with high math scores will have an advantage. Two students, Nguyen Manh Thang and Nguyen Manh Hung, are the valedictorians of the national A00 block, but their math scores are 9.6 points, lower than the math scores of many other candidates.

Thus, with the above calculation, Thang and Hung’s computer science admission score is 29.21.

Nguyen Manh Thang said he was quite surprised with this result. According to this candidate, this year, the Ministry of Education and Training has a different way of adding priority points for candidates with a total score of 22.5 or more compared to previous years, so her priority points are quite low, not enough to enter the IT industry.

Nguyen Manh Hung also said that before that, he was confident that he had the opportunity to be accepted into Computer Science. Therefore, failing to major in IT1 surprised me. However, this male student said that he was also quite interested in the IT2 industry, so he did not feel too sad.

From 2023, priority points for candidates with a total score of 22.5 or higher (when converted to a 10-point scale and a maximum of 30 total points in 3 subjects) is determined by the following formula: Priority score = [(30 – tổng điểm đạt được)/7,5] x priority score.

In which, the priority score applied to area 1 is 0.75 points; rural area 2 is 0.5 points; area 2 is 0.25 points; Area 3 is not given priority points.

According to this year’s formula for calculating priority points, the two valedictorians only have about 0.05 extra points, which is not enough to help them get admitted.

With this score, both male students passed the 2nd wish to enter the Computer Engineering (IT2) major of Hanoi University of Science and Technology. This branch of Hanoi University of Science and Technology got 28.29 points.
