Why did the Northern Lights appear in the sky over the Dnieper and the region?

On the night of May 10-11, the Aurora Borealis could be seen in the Dnieper and the region.

Because of this, the sky turns pink and purple with green tints closer to the horizon.

Many city residents shared their photos on social networks.

Experts explained why the Northern Lights appeared in Ukraine.

The cause of the appearance of the Aurora in many regions of Ukraine is associated with the strongest magnetic storm in 20 years. And on May 10, the storm reached a geomagnetic activity level of five (K-index). However, on May 11-12 it will reach 9 points. It was as a result of powerful ejections on the Sun that the Aurora Borealis was observed in the south and east of Ukraine.
