why did the mayor of Langon write to the Minister of the Interior?

This is the third time he has written to the Interior Ministry this year. The mayor of Langon Jérôme Guillem had already questioned Gérald Darmanin twice. He sent a new letter to his successor Bruno Retailleau to request an increase in the numbers of the Langon gendarmerie.

During the municipal council of November 14, the elected official took advantage of a question from opposition elected official Didier Sendrès on the problems linked to the consumption of alcohol on public roads to recall the actions to fight against delinquency already businesses, but also the demand for additional resources. “I would like to express strong recognition to the gendarmerie, we are not saying that they work poorly, but appropriate resources are needed. »

The issue of numbers

If the population of the sub-prefecture is around 7,500 inhabitants, the mayor argues that nearly 25,000 people pass there every day. In his letter for the month of October, he cites the 3,500 students, the 1,000 daily travelers in transit through the station, but also the attendance linked to health establishments and public services.

“In the same way, we must divide the number of facts by 25,000 and not 7,500”, affirms Jérôme Guillem, in reference to the ranking which placed Langon in 2023 in the top 20 of small towns which record the highest rate of attacks and injuries per capita.

Gérald Darmanin responded to the previous letter, last July, by highlighting the creation of three new brigades in Gironde (Izon, Le Barp and Mios). The minister also listed the various devices of the Langon company: surveillance and intervention platoon, cell for attacks on people and children… and the creation of two additional positions since 2017. The Langon-Toulenne brigade currently has 31 soldiers. Note that the City of Langon employs five municipal police officers and two public highway surveillance officers (ASVP).

What strategies are being considered to improve public safety in Langon, especially concerning alcohol-related ⁢incidents on public roads?

Welcome to the World Today News interview segment. Today, we are discussing the increasing demand for police presence in the town of Langon, especially regarding public safety and alcohol-related incidents on public ⁤roads. Our guests ⁤on ‌the show are Mayor Jérôme Guillem and citizen representative Didier Sendrès. Thank ⁣you both for joining us ‌today.

Mayor Guillem, you have brought up concerns about the lack of resources in the ⁣Langon gendarmerie to deal with the increasing number of incidents in your town. Can you expand on the specific incidents that have sparked this need for more police officers and personnel? How are ⁢these ⁢incidents‌ affecting the ⁢day-to-day life of the townspeople?

Mayor Guillem: Thank ⁣you for having me. Yes, ⁣we have seen ‌a significant increase in incidents⁤ related to alcohol consumption on ‌public roads, which has led to more‍ accidents and public ⁣disturbances. We’ve‍ also had an increase‌ in petty crime⁢ and other forms of delinquency in the area. ‍These⁤ incidents are‌ causing a lot of concern among our residents and we feel that the⁤ current resources are inadequate to handle them effectively.

Citizen representative Sendrès, as someone⁤ who ⁣has raised the issue of alcohol-related incidents in the⁤ past, what⁤ would you like to ⁣see done about this problem? Do you support the mayor’s call for more police resources, and if so, how do you think that will impact⁢ the town’s overall safety?

Didier ⁤Sendrès: Indeed, I share the mayor’s concerns about the alcohol-related incidents in our ⁢town. I believe that more police presence would definitely help⁢ in reducing ⁤the number of these incidents and make our⁤ streets safer. I also⁤ think that educating the public on the dangers ⁣of excessive alcohol consumption can go a long ‍way in ‌preventing⁤ these ⁤incidents from happening in the first⁣ place.

Mayor Guillem, you’ve mentioned that the population of ⁢the town has grown significantly in recent years, with nearly 25,000 people ⁢passing ⁣through Langon daily. Can you tell us more about how this growth is affecting ‍the town’s infrastructure and ‍resources, particularly when it comes to public ‌safety?

Mayor Guillem: Yes, the growth in population has certainly⁤ put a strain on our resources, particularly when it comes to public safety. We have
