Call of Duty: Vanguard is onlangs announced via battle royale mode Warzone. The latest title in the popular shooter series from publisher Activision coming out on November 5th. However, there was something striking to see in the Vanguard trailer and other promotional material for the new Call of Duty game: the Activision logo, which featured prominently next to the Call of Duty logo in previous promotional campaigns, has suddenly disappeared. At the same time, the developers’ logos are still visible. Why is it suddenly different now?
Journalists and other social media users quickly made the connection with the lawsuit against Activision Blizzard: the large gaming company has been sued for an alleged corrupt corporate culture, which allegedly involves inappropriate amounts of money and discrimination against female employees. Thousands of workers went on strike to protest against the leadership of Activision Blizzard, who are being held responsible for the abuses.
Critical
The outcry led to, among other things, the resignation of the president of Blizzard Entertainment and the appointment of two new leaders at the company, but that is being looked at critically: real power would now rest in the hands of Activision Blizzard CEO, Bobby Kotick. T-Mobile disappeared as sponsor at the Call of Duty and Overwatch leagues, as well as other brands like Coca-Cola and State Farm Reconsider Their Position as Lead Sponsors for Activision Blizzard’s competitions.
Stephen Totilo asked Activision on behalf of VGC News why the logo has disappeared from the Call of Duty promotional material. In response, he was told it was a “creative choice” to omit the Activision logo.
