Persib Bandung young midfielder, Robi Dervishplayed as a central defender since Shin Tae Yong moment Indonesia Under 20 national team defeated East Timor in the first match of the 2023 Asian Cup U-20 qualifiers on Wednesday (14/9).
Robi was portrayed by Shin Tae Yong as center-back alongside Muhammad Ferrari and Dimas Pamungkas when Indonesia beat East Timor 4-0.
While not quite perfect, Robi’s game deserves appreciation. The 19-year-old player managed to repay Shin Tae Yong’s trust through a shrewd match in the defense sector so that the Indonesian goal managed to clean sheet. He also recorded two assists in that game.

Shin Tae Yong said the decision to play Robi Darwis as center-back for the U-20 national team was an important part of Indonesia’s playing strategy.
“It’s not his position [Robi] the original, but maybe try to give new colors, new tactics for the team and especially for the Robi players. It is still in preparation for it to become more mature and better, ”Shin Tae Yong said after fighting Timor Leste.
Indonesia successfully beat East Timor with hat-tricks from Hokky Caraka and Rabbani Tasnim. This win put the U-20 national team below Vietnam in the Group F standings as they lost goal productivity.
Vietnam successfully beat Hong Kong 5-1 in the first game. However, Shin Tae Yong was not very impressed with Vietnam’s victory.
“For sure Indonesia will compete for first place with Vietnam. For the first game [Vietnam] I immediately looked at it, but I felt that only Hong Kong was not well prepared, “said Shin Tae Yong.
In addition, the Indonesian Under 20 national team will face Hong Kong at the Bung Tomo stadium on Friday (16/9).
