The Navy Russia started launching missile attacks from their warships on Mariupol City, Ukrainevia the Sea of Azov.
The attack was carried out by Russia in the midst of Turkey’s decision to close the sea route to prevent the war between the two countries from escalating.
Known, President Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan last month closed a number of sea lanes in his region. The line covers the straits of the Dardanelles and the Bosphorus which connect the Black Sea, the Sea of Marmara, and the Aegean Sea.
However, why are Russian warships still able to attack Ukraine from the Black Sea, especially in the Sea of Azov?
A senior United States Department of Defense official said Russia has 21 warships in the Black Sea, including in the Sea of Azov. This is what causes the red bear country to still be able to attack Ukraine by sea.
So far, Russia is known to have bombarded Mariupol with long-range missiles from their warships. Heavy artillery on the ground is also said to have added to the Russian offensive against the city.
In a video circulating, a Russian warship can be seen launching a missile near the coast of Crimea. The warship’s missiles were seen hurtling towards Ukrainian territory.
To this day, Russia still has not ended its “military operation” in Ukraine. At least, a number of cities such as Mariupol, Kherson, Melitopol, Donetsk, Luhansk, and Crimea have been successfully controlled by Russia.
