Phillip Schofield has presented This Morning since 2002, but that will end immediately. “I’ve always prided myself on telling fascinating stories, but recently This Morning itself has become the topic of conversation,” the Briton writes in a statement.
Infinite laughter
“I have agreed to leave This Morning effective immediately in the hope that the show has a bright future.”
Schofield is a household name in Great Britain. He is – also among the Dutch public – best known for endless laughter with his co-presenter Holly Willoughby. Here’s how much fun the two had together:
Lately, however, things have not been going well between the two. They would not talk to each other behind the scenes for some time. The Sun recently wrote of a ‘cool’ relationship and Schofield then told the British newspaper that ‘the last few weeks have not been easy’.
Sexual abuse
Schofield does not say exactly what the reason for the sudden goodbye is. But British media suspect it has to do with the conviction of Schofield’s younger brother Timothy.
Timothy Schofield was found guilty last month of sexual assault involving children. The 54-year-old was sentenced to twelve years in prison yesterday.
“I don’t have a brother anymore”
Schofield took a leave of absence on this case and recently returned to This Morning. He said against his brother’s conviction British media: “As far as I am concerned, I no longer have a brother.”
Willoughby will continue to present the program, ITV announced.
