With his new team and already with a goal in his debut, Dávila was honest about the fact that, in the past, América ‘made him suffer’ when he played for Necaxa, Pachuca or León, but that this made him realize the greatness of the Coapa team.
“The truth is that it made me suffer. Well, any player who is in the Mexican league knows what America means, knows what it represents, knows what it is to go and play a match against America. They are always difficult matches, very complicated matches.
The Chilean considers Club América to be a step forward in his career, even though he was playing in European football, so he considered that he did not think twice about the offer from the Eagles, at least on a sporting level, although he cannot say the same about his family.
“From a football perspective, I think it was an easy decision, it wasn’t that difficult. What was difficult was the family issue, because I was arriving in Russia a year ago. With my family, obviously, I think they are always the ones who find it a bit more difficult to move from place to place.
“It’s one of the biggest clubs in Latin America. Its roster shows it. There were many national team players, many players with a lot of quality, many players who come looking for it in each transfer window, and I think that any player puts a lot of weight into being at América, which is why not many have wanted to leave here, because they know what it represents for them, for their careers. I think that in that part, I think that in football, América is a huge club, as I said before, the biggest club in Mexico,” he added.
In America, Víctor Dávila met with his Chilean compatriots Diego Valdés and Igor Lichnovsky and, regarding the latter, he confessed that he had many references and the defender in a certain way ‘helped’ his signing for the azulcrema.
“Well, I have a very good relationship with Diego, a very good relationship with Igor. The truth is that they have always talked to me a lot about the club, more than I already knew… I, for my part, knew that coming here was going to be an incredible opportunity in which I could contribute to the team, to continue seeking more titles, to be able to play my role within the club, so nothing, I think that Igor’s help was fundamental to being able to come to Club América.”
