It has been hyped a lot, but who is the godfather of the Turkish fighter? Who thought of naming him Kaan?
As BIMAtodotis writes, the Turkish fighter, (with engines, however… F-16) that Erdoğan advertised so much was called Kaan, i.e. the “Great King” or the “King of Kings”, or the “Great Ruler” which in some in Turkish dialects Kaan also means… ruin.
Of course, there was no way, writes BIMAtodotis, that the Turks would want to name their fighter that way.
What is of great interest is that the name of the fighter was chosen by the leader of the Gray Wolves and Erdogan’s government partner Devlet Bahtceli, leader of the nationalist Nationalist Action party.
On Wednesday morning (21/2), the Turkish 5th generation KAAN fighter jet made its maiden flight. The prototype of the fighter jet took off from Ankara’s Murtand military airport.
This is the low-visibility Stealth technology twin-engine aircraft designed by the Turkish Aviation Industry (with British BAE Systems as a subcontractor in the project), after the US decision to exclude Ankara from the F-35 program. It is planned to join the Turkish Air Force in 2028.
