Kaiann Drance, vice president of iPhone marketing at Apple Speaking at the iPhone 14 launch event, “With an eSIM, you can quickly transfer an existing cellular plan or get a new cellular plan.”
Drans also added that the eSIM can create the “Safer” device, stating, “People cannot remove the physical SIM card if your iPhone is lost or stolen.”
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) also said eSIMs have “significant security benefits”. Some authors are known to steal physical SIM cards and pass them to another phone to “use” them. Access someone’s data and reset their account, according to FCC. ESIM can mitigate this risk because “You can’t steal without stealing your phone.”
In theory, eliminating the SIM slot could have another benefit: it leaves more room for a larger battery or other phone features. Apple which is always trying to make the device thinner
While removing the SIM slot may not be the equivalent of Apple’s decision to ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack, it has caused some buzz on social media.
In particular, international travelers often use it to change their physical SIM in different places and can travel to places where eSIMS is not yet supported by carriers, such as mainland China.
