Alderman Rutger Groot Wassink, leader of GroenLinks during the elections, is going off Twitter for the time being. In his own words, that is the reason that he blocked a large number of twitterers, including several Amsterdam politicians, this weekend. And that caused a twitter storm yesterday with the running gag: ‘have you been blocked by Rutger yet?’

For example, Party for the Animals councilor Johnas van Lammeren was blocked by Groot Wassink, just like group representatives Helene de Bruine (Christian Union) and Bowine Michel (CDA). Also Telegraaf reporter Daniel van Dam got a block. Henk van Dijk of the Longstay No Way action committee and Frans Heijn of the United Shipping Companies Amsterdam also reported that they had been blocked by Groot Wassink.
