Why Diablo 4’s Storage Box Expansion is Delayed Until the 1.1.1 Update

The “Diablo IV” (Diablo IV) development team’s live broadcast last weekend mentioned the future plan of the 1.1.1 update, which includes the space expansion of the storage box. Some players wonder why such space expansion needs to be delayed until 1.1.1 before the revision.

“Diablo 4” is an online MMORPG. Unlike the past series of stand-alone players who can only see their characters in the town, they have the opportunity to meet players they don’t know online in Sanctuary through the server connection.

But why this is related to the expansion of the storage box space, according to the “Diablo 4” deputy director Joseph Piepiora responded to the player on Twitter, he clearly explained the reason: the original player will read the data of other players’ storage boxes together in the game town.

In other words, when the player is in Kiowaxia or Keduba, when there are many players in your location, the player client will read the storage box item data of all players at that time through the server at once, which also explains the abnormal delay in the town when the original “Diablo 4” was launched.

Therefore, the storage box space cannot be expanded in 1.1.0. It is not that the Blizzard team is unwilling to increase it, but that it will increase the load on the server after adding it. This also made Piepiora emphasize in a tweet: “This is not a space consideration problem, but a performance problem.”

Perhaps this is because players can check each other’s equipment. In order to prevent some players from changing equipment in the warehouse, other players have to access data once. It is set to simply read the data of all player equipment and warehouse items in the town from the beginning. As for how to solve the performance problem, I believe Blizzard will figure out a solution before the arrival of 1.1.1.
