Why Cristiano Ronaldo’s New Channel Is So Popular on YouTube

Cristiano Ronaldo has launched his YouTube channel, which has registered more than 19 million subscribers in just 24 hours. A record success for the Portuguese footballer, who can aim very high with this project, which will undoubtedly be very useful to him when he hangs up his boots.

Already the most followed personality on Instagram with 636 million subscribers, will Cristiano Ronaldo become the biggest YouTuber in the world? And what’s more, in record time? At 39, the Portuguese footballer finally decided, on Wednesday, August 21, to start your own channel. With immediate success: in less than 24 hours, More than 19 million subscriptions have been recorded. Which already places the five-time Ballon d’Or winner among the most popular stars on the platform.

The channel was launched with the uploading of eleven videos. The vast majority of them are less than two minutes long, with content that would be perfectly calibrated for Tiktok, Instagram or Youtube Shorts.

“Closer to my fans”

It’s all about his personality and his family at the moment. “I’m keeping track of my best goals at the Euros with the SIUUUMETER,” he suggests, for example, referring to his famous celebration on the pitch. In another video, he stages himself in a free-kick challenge with his son Cristiano Jr. And with “This is how I overcome adversity,” he highlights an answer given during a press conference with the Portuguese national team.

In one of the two longest videos available on the first day, Cristiano Ronaldo appears with his partner Georgina Rodriguez to tell the story of the genesis of the channel: “It’s a project that we’ve been thinking about for many years. (…) It’s a way for me to be closer to my fans after so many years in football. It’s an ideal platform to share a little bit of my life, my interests with very original content.” This is done, for example, through a video in which she and he answer a quiz about their couple, described as “the most famous on the planet.”

Preparing for the post-career with a more positive image

If the channel can be found with the identifier @Cristiano, “UR · Cristiano” is its official name, which should be read as “You are Cristiano”. That is, “You are Cristiano”. Why this name? “We want to know your opinion. UR is a way (…) of being part of the concept”, he replies.

This adventure will also allow Cristiano Ronaldo to prepare for his post-football career, which is fast approaching. On Instagram, his photos mainly focus on his sporting performances. YouTube gives him the opportunity to move away from that, by going more into the realm of lifestyle and, above all, by sending a more joyful and altruistic image of himself. “Fans are going to love discovering this side of you that they probably don’t know,” predicts Georgina Rodriguez. This would be a radical contrast to his angry outbursts with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, which reinforce his detractors’ view of him as arrogant and narcissistic.

Can he beat MrBeast?

“CR7” does not arrive on the platform as an amateur videographer. His first contents benefit from production means comparable to those of the platform’s stars. The thumbnails of his videos have nothing to envy those of renowned YouTubers, for example.

Another clue demonstrates the ambitions of the Real Madrid legend: several of his videos benefit from a title directly translated into French for French-speaking Internet users. A strategy for maximizing the potential audience that recalls in particular what the American does MrBeast, king of Youtube with 311 million subscribers.

With his explosive launch, Cristiano Ronaldo has already surpassed several personalities. A live video from the “Score 90” account also allows you to follow in real time the evolution of the number of subscribers, but also the levels reached to surpass for example Lionel Messi (2.2 million subscribers), Manchester United (9.3 million) or FC Barcelona (17.9 million). The famous streamer Speed (28 million), who is a fan of him, will probably be the next on the list to be surpassed in no time. Finally, reaching MrBeast’s score may be less long than we think…
