Why Are You Still Young? These 5 Bad Habits Could Be The Cause

Jakarta

Heart disease may generally attack those with an older age. Even so, those who are younger are still at risk if they have some bad habits.

Quoted from Health Plus, generally heart disease can be caused by health problems related to metabolic syndrome. The problems associated with metabolic syndrome are mostly lifestyle related.

Here are some risk factors for heart disease that can be controlled early on, and are generally done by young people.

1. Consuming Energy Drinks

People with obesity tend to have high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes. These factors can all increase the risk of heart disease.

Central obesity occurs in adolescents when they have a waist circumference of more than 94 cm in men and 80 cm in women. People with this waist circumference have a higher risk of developing insulin resistance.

Studies in the United States show that energy drinks and soft drinks make up about 13 percent of teens’ calorie intake. This can cause a person to become obese.

Energy drinks are not only high in caffeine, they are also high in sugar which can provide a temporary energy boost. Many teenagers like soft drinks, especially energy drinks which are often used as a way to avoid drowsiness.

2. Smoking

Many teenagers start smoking just to fit in with their peers. In fact, the nicotine content in cigarettes can narrow the blood vessels which causes the heart to work harder.

Among young people, smoking is reported as the cause of 75 percent of heart disease. When smoking starts at a young age, the risk increases the higher the person smokes the more cigarettes.

3. Lack of Physical Activity

A study conducted among Singaporean teenagers revealed that half of those whose blood test results indicated a risk of metabolic syndrome were of normal weight or underweight. This shows that body weight does not necessarily affect the risk of the metabolic system.

In the case of these adolescents, body weight is not a risk factor for the metabolic system, but is influenced by their lifestyle which lacks physical activity. Every teenager should be physically active for at least 60 minutes a day.

These activities include moderate to high intensity activities. The first thing to do so that young people want to be physically active is to limit their use of social media or playing video games.
