Why are we Peruvians like this?
We see thieves circulate through the offices of the State bureaucracy; from ministry to ministry, from seat to seat. His sport is to spend taxpayers’ money: a part for fun and another – the most substantial – for his pocket.
In Peru we have plenty of thieves of public faith and those are voted for and called to appear before justice, they escape to paradises with beaches or shoot themselves.
The cronies try, in a shameless somersault, to turn the faint-hearted into heroes and the traitors into great men of the Nation.
Pretending in an ephemeral and modest article, to describe if we Peruvians know how we are and due to what causes, would constitute a major effort and far superior to the very limited abilities of someone who is only an amateur writer.
Yes, it is possible to risk some considerations that could be interesting.
Does a Peruvian from Tumbes, with equatorial heat, feel the same as a highlander with harsh cold and altitudes not suitable for those who suffer from heart disease?
What unites them both? A flag, an anthem, a geography? A common story? I dare to say that Peru is many stories at the same time, not a few with a taste of tears and oppression and with distinctive local quotas.
There is a story told only in fragments and it is about corruption that is older than the republic and that is in the social DNA of Peru.
One of the first scams and farces was set up by the Iberians and with Pizarro at their head, they gave an account of Atahualpa in Cajamarca.
It was one of the germinal scams, of the hundreds of thousands that would be repeated to this day, 500 years later.
A traitor of short and ridiculous stature, with his federica boots, mused that Peru was a country of confused people.
He had some reason, the main streets and avenues of all the districts, provinces and regions, bear his name, that of the gifter of Lima to the invading hosts in the war that Chile presented us and the days of the tragedy were January 13 and 15 of 1881.
And it is not uncommon that felons of all bloodlines managed to have “history” record their “exploits” and their surnames tamped down not a few fortunes, millions of suspicious origins, and the most shameless and longstanding looting of the Peruvian State through almost all the governments to date.
But Peruvians, inoculated by distorting television and mediocre print and radio media, do not stop cultivating stupidocracy, a “virtue” in which we all pretend not to understand anything as long as they let us “live in peace” and that others pay for the piper. .
Government that arrives, regime that blames during its first four years -of the total of five-, to the previous administration. And almost 200 years have passed since this cancerous sport.
And our critics and analysts? They enjoy showing off their multiple diplomas, certificates of attendance at forums, symposiums, workshops, even though they repeat from channel to channel, radio station to radio station, daily after daily, the same vulgar cantatas that have not changed for 35 or 40 years.
Those are the conservatives that Peru does NOT need!
Kiosk intellectuals, they produce palliatives that are useless and that are paid promptly. Has anyone reviewed the list of scientists, strategists, political scientists, researchers, on the payroll of the ministries?
The phenomenon is explosive and indigestible. We have had professional muggers as briefcase holders; monreros and extortionists in charge of public and private banks; thieving presidents and even one of those committed suicide to avoid going to jail with his bones and another resigned by fax thousands of kilometers from the country.
The showcase is rather embarrassing and everyone taking care of their lineages and reduced herds.
These were confused, they had nothing, they came to steal, period!
Wayward, inequitable, Peruvians go from almost glorious satisfaction for the goals of the soccer team in any tie, to immense grief for the thousands of deaths from covid19.
From jubilation to the abyssal bottom and the pendular shape has marked us since the beginning of the republic and is an inevitable way to record our steps.
Why are we the way we are?
Perhaps the time has come to study the matter, although I am not mistaken if I anticipate that not even in the eleventh hour will we be able to describe it in its limits.
Such is the loquacious and unbridled capacity of compatriots to fill themselves with reasons not to do something constructive.
And not infrequently, to go back and not to advance.
