Vitamins: what are they?
Vitamins are nutrients that we can find in our food and drinks. We only need a very small amount of vitamins, but unfortunately our body doesn’t produce enough vitamins on its own. It is therefore important to supplement these vitamins by drinking nutritious products and healthy drinks alone.
So why are vitamins so important?
Vitamins may be more important than you think. The body needs vitamins to function normally, to recover and grow properly. For example, vitamins can contribute to better stamina, healthier bones and nerves, and to give us energy. Vitamins also prevent some physical ailments, such as fatigue and poor stamina. It is therefore very important that we make sure we get our daily portion of vitamins.
What vitamins are there?
In total we know two groups of vitamins. One group of vitamins is dissolved in water, the other group of vitamins in fat. The vitamins dissolved in the water are vitamins B and C. These vitamins are found in vegetables, fruit and milk. The vitamins that dissolve in fats are vitamins A, D, E and K. You find them in meat, fatty fish, butter but also in milk. We can store vitamins from fat, vitamins from water cannot. It is therefore important to take vitamins from the water regularly.
What vitamins should we not forget?
It is therefore very important to maintain vitamin intake on a daily basis. But which vitamins are really that important? Below we list a few for you.
1. Vitamin B12
We just mentioned that there are two different types of vitamin groups: fat-soluble and water-soluble. We have said that vitamin B is water soluble and must therefore be integrated into the body. But vitamin B12 it is separate. This is because it is already in the body. However, there may be a deficiency of vitamin B12 in the body. This doesn’t just happen, it often takes several months or even years. Vitamin B12 is needed to make red blood cells, which then regulate oxygen in the body and thus give energy.
A vitamin B12 deficiency can therefore be recognized by low energy, reduced stamina, and even painful nerves. Vitamin B12 is found in all animal products. 2. Vitamin D
Enjoying the sun and getting some vitamin D at the same time: delicious! When the sun’s rays hit our skin, our body will naturally produce vitamin D. Vitamin D improves our immune system and makes our bones stronger. But in addition to the sun that produces vitamin D, you can also find vitamin D in foods. For example, vitamin D is found in oily fish, mushrooms and butter.
3. Vitamin B6
We just mentioned vitamin B12, but besides B12 there are many other vitamins that fall into group B. You also have vitamin B6. This vitamin ensures that our metabolism and nervous system can function properly. You can find vitamin B6 in meat, eggs, bread and potatoes. But beware: too much vitamin B6 can be dangerous.
4. Vitamin A
For good stamina, healthy skin and good eyesight it is important to maintain standard vitamin A intake. Vitamin A is found mainly in animal products, such as meat and eggs, but also mainly in liver products. However, too much vitamin A can be dangerous, especially for children or during pregnancy. It is therefore important to leave the liver products in that case.
5. Vitamin C
One of the most important vitamins is Vitamin C. This should certainly not be missing in your vitamin intake, as it can improve your body in several areas. For example, vitamin C will make your stamina improve, your skin will look healthier, your bones will be stronger, your nerves can function properly, and that iron can be absorbed properly. Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin: it is therefore important to regularly supplement this vitamin by eating fruit, vegetables and potatoes. When you ingest too much vitamin C, the excess vitamins will leave the body through the urine. This is because it is a water-soluble vitamin.
