KOMPAS.com – When you are on an airplane on a flight, most passengers will feel cold over time.
In fact, many are aware that the temperature inside the airplane cabin is deliberately made colder.

However, why should it be made cooler, the reason was also related to the medical condition of the passengers on the plane.
The voluntary organization that develops technical standardization for materials, products, systems and services in the United States (USA), ASTM International, is trying to uncover the reasons behind the coldness of airplane cabins.
Launching from Reader’s DigestSunday (12/6/2022), they conducted a study about people who fainted while on a flight and what this has to do with cabin pressure and temperature.
From this study, it is known that people who faint more easily when on a plane, are actually affected by a medical condition known as hypoxia.

Hypoxia can occur when the body’s tissues don’t receive enough oxygen, and cabin pressure makes it worse.
Other things that can trigger it Hypoxia is the condition of the cabin was too hot, so that the temperature was made to be lower than average, quoted from Travel and Leisure.
However, passengers need not worry. Because medical conditions like this are common to airplane passengers.
To reduce the number of passengers who fainted due to hypoxia, airlines deliberately make the cabin temperature cold.
Due to varying body temperatures, airlines can only make the air temperature in the cabin slightly lower than the average human cold tolerance.
Unfortunately, not everyone has the same tolerance for cold temperatures. Even when exposed to the slightest breeze, some already felt cold.

So if you feel cold while on the plane, it’s better to immediately put on a blanket or warm clothes.
Meanwhile, retired Delta captain Paul Eschenfelder told The Washington Post that newer planes can regulate cabin temperatures more precisely.
That’s because on newer planes, they have a more sophisticated thermostat (cooling system) that allows the air temperature to be adjusted to the row of seats.
What is the temperature on the plane?
Reported by AeroTime Hub the air temperature on the plane is generally maintained between 22-24 degrees Celsius.
The temperature is quite warm. However, because passengers just sit still in the seat, it feels colder.

It’s different if airplane passengers move a lot in the cabin, then the result is that they will sweat and not feel cold anymore.
Who regulates the air temperature on the plane?
According to Scandinavian Airlines flight attendant Josephine Remo, the air temperature in the cabin can be controlled by both the flight attendant and the pilot.
Remo added that each airline also has its own cabin temperature standards. As for the location of the thermostat, it is generally stored in the cockpit.
Meanwhile, according to Deanna Castro, who has been a flight attendant for 16 years and founder of Future Flight Attendant, said that for new aircraft, the control panel can be used by flight attendants to regulate the cabin temperature.

“We prefer it because we don’t have to constantly call the pilot to try and get the temperature right,” Castro said.
Furthermore, Castro explained that most flight attendants want a fixed rule regarding cabin temperature from the federal. However, until now there has been no established patent.
