“Why Apple’s Trick with USB C on iPhones is a Weapon for Users: EU Regulations and Mfi Certification Explained”

The iPhone Lightning port was replaced with USB C due to European Union regulations, but Apple came up with a new trick, and instead became a weapon for you.

Hitekno.com – The European Union commissioner for the internal market, Thierry Breton, issued a strict warning regarding the possible introduction of USB C on iPhones. Breton states that if USB C is introduced on the iPhone, there shouldn’t be any restrictions or blocks of any kind. Failing to comply with this, the European Union may impose a sales ban.

Reported from Gizchina, Apple may already be considering introducing USB C on the iPhone 15. However, rumor has it that they are exploring ways to monetize the change. One way that is being considered is the Made for iPhone (Mfi) certification.

This ensures that full speed charging and data transfer is only possible with certified accessories. This will limit the drop in turnover caused by the mandatory single connector, namely USB C, in Cupertino.

However, the European Union seems unwilling to listen to any excuses. The Breton commissioners are reported to have written and sent a letter to Apple Park to ensure that they are aware of the consequences of not complying with EU regulations.

According to colleagues at Die Zelt, Breton stated that “Devices that do not meet the requirements for a single charger will not receive approval for sale on the European Union market”.

The European Union passed a law in late 2022 stating that from 2024, all electronic devices must have USB C for charging. The goal is to increase convenience for consumers and reduce e-waste.

It seems likely that Apple will comply with this requirement with the iPhone 15. However, EU legislation provides for two time limits allowing Cupertino to keep using the Lightning connector for the time being.

States will have to adjust their laws on single chargers by December 28 this year. However, they are not required to enforce this law until December 28, 2024.

The introduction of USB C on the iPhone is in line with the European Union’s goal of reducing e-waste and increasing convenience for consumers. The provisions of the European Union to prevent restrictions or blocks for consumers are quite clear.

It’s not yet clear how Apple will respond to the warning and whether it will comply with regulations by the time limit.

Switching to USB C will bring many benefits to iPhone users. USB C is a universal connector that is already used by many other devices, including Android smartphones and laptops.

This means users will be able to charge their iPhone using the same cable they use for other devices, reducing clutter and making their life easier.

USB C also supports faster charging and data transfer speeds than Lightning. This will be a significant upgrade for iPhone users.
