And he explained that the reason was because Apple was still hindered by complying with the 40 percent Domestic Contribution Rate (TKDN) regulations set by the government.

These regulations are contained in the Regulation of the Minister of Industry No. 29 of 2017 regarding Provisions and Procedures for the calculation of TKDN Values for cellular products, handheld computers and tablet computers.

According to him, the government is providing flexibility to companies through three TKDN performance schemes, namely manufacturing, application and innovation schemes. Apple chose to use an innovation scheme, even though Agus believed that the manufacturing scheme was better.

“Companies can use three schemes. You can choose three schemes. The first is a manufacturing scheme, that is making products at home. This is the best for us. The second is an application scheme, they do applications at home. domestic innovation scheme “Of these three schemes, Apple chose the third scheme, which is innovation,” said Agus.

Additionally, Agus said that Apple’s TKDN certificate had expired and now needed to be extended. However, the expansion process was blocked because Apple had not fulfilled its total investment commitment of IDR 1.71 trillion.

He explained that Apple’s current investment was only realized at IDR 1.48 trillion, so there is still a shortfall of IDR 240 billion.

“TKDN’s certificate extension process is still waiting for additional investment from Apple because Apple’s investment performance was only recorded at IDR 1.48 trillion, which is relatively small compared to the results they brought to Indonesia from the commitment between Apple and the government, namely IDR. 1.71 trillion,” said the Industry Minister.

Agus explained that permission to sell the iPhone 16 in Indonesia would be given once Apple fulfills the remaining investment promise.

“As soon as they keep that promise, we will give them licenses to sell the iPhone 16,” he concluded.
