Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Apple’s latest MacBook Pro model launched in October 2023 has surprised many fans and critics with its design choices. One of the most noticeable changes is the removal of the Touch Bar from the MacBook Pro models
The Touch Bar itself is an OLED touch screen panel that replaces the row of function buttons on previous MacBook Pro models. So, this feature introduced in 2016 can be customized by users to access various applications and tasks.
However, after seven years of existence, Apple decided to remove the Touch Bar and bring back the traditional function keys. What is the reason behind this decision? Here are some possibilities that we collected from several sources.
User Feedback
One of the main reasons Apple ditched the Touch Bar was because it wasn’t accepted feedback which is quite positive from users. Many MacBook Pro users complain that the Touch Bar isn’t very useful, intuitive, or reliable.
For your information, the Touch Bar can be customized according to the application being opened, but this brings problems for users.
The Touch Bar is considered too intrusive and requires users to see for themselves what they are pressing. This is different from the function key (F) which generally has a fixed function.
Additionally, the Touch Bar isn’t compatible with many apps and doesn’t offer enough customization options. This feature is also susceptible to glitches, freezes, and accidental touches.
Considering this feature comes as virtual buttons that are actually a regular screen, the Touch Bar doesn’t provide the tactile feedback or physical buttons that users prefer.
According to a survey conducted by Laptopmag in 2020, only 16 percent of MacBook Pro users said they often used the Touch Bar. Meanwhile, 44 percent of respondents said they had never used it.
Another survey by 9to5Mac in 2021 it was also found that 60 percent of MacBook Pro users wanted Apple to remove the Touch Bar and replace it with function keys.
