The owner of the Tesla from the UK explained why she tried to fill it with gas. A video of 22-year-old Danielle Wright pulling up to a gas station in her Tesla Model Y and trying to fill it up has gone viral, showing the woman trying to figure out how to fill it up.
She drove around the car with a gun in her hand until eyewitnesses convinced her that the electric car didn’t need gas. The video, watched by tens of millions of people, prompted many verbal attacks against Wright – such that Tesla CEO Elon Musk decided to stand up for her.
Some users called Wright “stupid,” while others claimed the video was staged and the Tesla wasn’t even hers. There are not a few mockery of the girl’s appearance. “People say I have more money than brains, that upset me the most. I earned every penny myself to buy this Tesla,” says Wright, who describes herself as a content creator on Fanvue, a social subscription platform similar to OnlyFans.
According to her, the filmed episode happened at the end of a long day and she did not realize what she was doing. Also, the girl was thinking about the sweets she was going to buy at the gas station, not what the electric car was driving.
The video garnered more than 40 million views and attracted many haters. As a result, even Tesla CEO Elon Musk reacted: he noted that this “happens from time to time” and that “old habits are hard to break.”
This is indeed far from the first attempt to refuel a Tesla with gasoline. In 2018, a Model S owner was desperately trying to get the filler gun into her electric car until the driver of the car next door came to her rescue.
And according to a Toyota survey conducted in 2021, only a third of motorists know that electric cars are not equipped with an internal combustion engine.
