Whoops! Manchester United goalkeeper is retiring early

Manchester

The bad news came from Manchester United. One of the goalkeepers Paul Woolston had to retire early due to injury. Whoops!

Maybe not many know the figure of Paul Woolston. Naturally, considering his career was mostly spent in the U-23 team at Manchester United.

Moreover, Woolston is also not the original upbringing of the MU academy but was bought from Newcastle United’s U-18 team. He joined United in 2018/2019.

While strengthening for MU U-23, Woolston has only appeared 13 times with 25 conceded and three clean sheets. He was loaned a lot to small clubs like Gateshead, Darlington, Blyth Spartans, and South Shields.

However, disaster came for him when he got a hip injury on April 1, 2021. The injury forced him to be out for a long time and had to undergo two surgeries.

Unfortunately, the operation also could not save his career because Woolston continued to struggle with injuries. As a result, Woolston decided to hang from the gridiron as of March 23 this.

The decision was surprising considering that Woolston was actually only 23 years old and had played for the England U-18 and U-17 national teams.

“It’s very sad to have to retire at 23, but I feel much calmer now. I’m very proud of what I’ve achieved, there are many people dreaming of playing football at this level. Of course I want this career to be long, but at least I feel honored to be playing for Manchester United,” Woolston said in his video Daily Star.

“Right now I just want to focus on the next step in my career. I want to use all the learning I’ve learned, determination, will and desire to make my life a success.”

Number one goalkeeper Manchester United David De Gea sympathize with what happened Paul Woolston.

“It’s very sad. I trained with him when he was still fit, and this is certainly disappointing news. I wish him the best. He is an extraordinary person, a great goalkeeper, and we all continue to grieve for him,” said De Gea.
