The “Kleine Zeitung” reported this on Wednesday. “Whooping cough is a dangerous and highly contagious disease, and it is particularly dangerous for babies,” says Eva Winter, head of the Graz health department.
Side effect: seizures
Whooping cough causes violent coughing fits, sometimes with vomiting. As a result, middle ear infections, pneumonia or, in infancy, lung failure, seizures, breathing problems and even brain damage can occur. In adolescent or adult patients, whooping cough often has no typical symptoms. Those affected believe they are suffering from a flu-like infection with a persistent cough. You can infect an infant without being noticed.
Whooping cough (pertussis) is a potentially life-threatening disease for infants. This is why catching up on basic immunization and regular booster vaccinations for children and adults (every ten years) are very important. Especially if you come into contact with a baby who is not yet fully protected by vaccinations.
