Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Richard Branson will be the first billionaire to go into space. The 70-year-old man is scheduled to launch into space on Sunday (11/7/2021) tonight.
He will fly on the Unity 22 mission of space tourism company Virgin Galactic. This trip will use VSS Unity to take Branson into the stratosphere, as quoted from Cnet.
The Cnet Highlight Youtube channel will be livestreaming the launch. Coverage starts at 6:00 PT (20:00 WIB) and the live stream starts at 07:30 PT (09:30 WIB).
But according to reports Cnet and space guru Eric Mack confirmed the event would be postponed for 90 minutes.
This achievement is a long journey for Virgin Galactic. The dream of taking people into space has been around for 17 years and will come true by bringing the boss into space.
“It is an honor to be able to help validate the journey astronauts will take in the future,” Branson said.
“I’m honored to help validate the journey our future astronauts will take and ensure it delivers the unique customer experience expected from Virgin,” he said.
Branson’s trip was the company’s fourth test flight and the first mission with a crew of four on board.
Branson’s departure is nine days ahead of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ plans to go into space as well. Bezos and his company Blue Origin plan to launch it on July 20.
However, as if there was no competition, Bezos wished the best for Branson’s future mission. He uploaded his prayer on his official Instagram account along with a photo of Branson.
Bezos wrote down the smooth journey of the mission. “@richardbranson wish you and the rest of the team a safe and successful flight tomorrow. Good Luck!” he wrote.
The post was immediately attacked by netizens with more than 141 thousand likes. A number of netizens expressed respect for Bezos’ words.
Bezos plans to go to space with his brother and legendary aerospace pioneer Wally Frank. The last name managed to get a travel ticket by conducting an auction worth US$28 million (Rp407 billion) by the company.
