Who will rule the capital?

Asunción: To become mayor of the capital, you first have to become a candidate for your own party. Since Concordia is more of an illusion than reality, there are two major Colorado candidates in Asunción.

Currently, Daniel Centurión and Óscar Nenecho Rodríguez (still mayors who want to be re-elected) are the two candidates that the Colorados in Asunción have to choose between. This is also a choice between Mario Abdo, who supports Daniel Centurión, and Horacio Cartes, who promised Óscar Rodríguez his support.

Daniel Centurión is currently political advisor to the president, but is returning as a councilor for Asunción to start his campaign from there. It is not yet clear who will replace him in the López Palace.

Óscar Nenecho Rodríguez, who after he succeeded Mario Ferreiro with the support of the opposition, said he did not want to run again, contradicted himself and is now a representative of the Cartes-Colorados, as he has a relatively large number of supporters. He too has to quit in order to start an election campaign.

From now on, both steps will be initiated and decisions will be made that will appear particularly sympathetic to the voter, if not logical. Various politicians and city council members are now exercising their influence and supporting either one or the other candidate. Although Cartes’ candidate has a good chance, Centurión also gets a lot of support.

Meanwhile, the Cartes candidate Rodríguez informs that, according to his polls, he is ahead with 47 percent of the vote, ahead of Senator Martín Arévalo, the MP Hugo Ramírez and only then Daniel Centurión. The reason for this publication is easy to guess.
