New Delhi: Team India are confident of winning the series (2–1) despite a humiliating defeat in the first Test against Australia. Despite the absence of captain Virat Kohli and key players out of the squad due to injury, Ajinkya Rahane’s victory in Kangaroo Nadu was a total achievement for the country. A section of cricket experts are of the opinion that Rahane, who has not lost as a captain, should be made the permanent captain of the Test team. They also say that Kohli should focus more on batting and stay in the team. But Ajinkya Rahane has come out with a reply to them. Rahane said he was happy to lead the team in Kohli’s absence but that Kohli would always be his ‘captain’.
‘Nothing has changed. Virat is the captain of the Test team and will always be so. I am his deputy. In his absence, it is my duty to lead the team and it is my responsibility to give my best for the success of Team India, ”Rahane said. Rahane said that Kohli and himself maintain mutual respect on the field and are ready to make a positive contribution to the team.
‘He (Kohli) has praised my batting. We both played unforgettable innings in India and abroad. Virat is fourth and I am fifth. Won many good partnerships. We always respect each other.
