Who will broadcast the Premier League? Only Skylink is certain, we know the statements of other operators

Canal+ Sport will offer interesting content from the English football competition.

We have supplemented the original article from 06:01 in the marked places.

Already tomorrow in Slovakia and the Czech Republic starts broadcasting the new sports station Canal+ Sport. The main attraction will of course be the English Premier League.

Until now, the contest was available to subscribers of Telekom, Orange and Digi Slovakia. This is changing and moving to packages from Skylink and freeSAT. However, the owner of the services, Canal+, claims that it also wants to reach an agreement with the competition.

So we found out what the negotiations look like and what the competitors think about the statement of the station operator, who claimed that he will also negotiate with other TV providers.

From 7.5 euros

The Canal+ Sport program will be part of the Skylink and freeSAT platforms on the Astra 23.5°E satellite and the Skylink Live TV internet service, from where clients will have access to all matches played simultaneously. In Skylink, the sports channel will be available from 7.49 euros, but clients will also receive 50 other Slovak and Czech stations. You can find the exact list here:

What competitors are saying

See who is interested in including a new station and whether they are negotiating with Canal+:

  • Telekom: The operator wants to agree on including the station in the offer. “We are interested in the Premier League and are negotiating its possible inclusion. However, we cannot comment on the progress of the negotiations,” the operator said. Updated at 10:02 am: Spoon Canal+ Sport is testing the broadcast in the Magio Go service. The operator only talks about the test.
  • Orange: The company did not specify whether it is negotiating to be included in the IPTV and Internet service. Canal+ Sport will be part of the satellite service from Skylink, which the operator resells.
  • 4ka: “We will not include the channel at the moment. The broadcaster has not yet approached us with an offer,” she said.
  • Slovanet: The provider has confirmed that it is interested in adding a station. “We are planning to negotiate with the broadcaster about options and conditions in the near future.”
  • Hat: The company stated that the presented conditions are said to be impossible for smaller and medium-sized operators operating in our country. “Unfortunately, even Canal+ Sport will not be in our offers, at least until there is a real interest on the part of the broadcaster to offer new alternatives during negotiations. We are very sorry and we are disappointed by the medialized possibility of obtaining this channel for customers of other operators as well,” he describes. The operator thinks that the company really does not want to come to an agreement and that the program is intended only for large multinational operators.
  • Cookie TV: The company approached Canal+ saying that it is interested in adding a station. “Unfortunately, an agreement on the provision of a license was not reached. Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer this content to our customers,” she explained.
  • Digi Slovakia: The provider did not answer the questions. However, it is owned by Telekom and it can be estimated that if the owner agrees, Digi Slovakia will also add the channel.
  • Better TV: The operator is equally interested in adding a station. “We have been told that they will not negotiate with us at this time. The time horizon when we could talk again was not determined by them,” explained the operator.
  • O2: The provider only vaguely stated that it “analyzes and evaluates the needs of customers”. He wants to inform about possible news in a timely manner.
  • SledovanieTV: The company has not been approached, so it will not add the channel or negotiate inclusion.
  • Updated at 10:02 am: DSi Data: The company said it does not yet have information to share.

Antique specified that his representative, Vlastimil Lakatoš, tried to negotiate with Canal+ on behalf of the Slovak Association for Cable Telecommunications (SAKT) on inclusion for its members. Together, it covers hundreds of thousands of subscribers. He did not directly comment on the negotiations for Antik.

“Unfortunately, Canal+ Sport did not show interest in this negotiation on the grounds that too high minimum guarantees are required, which unfortunately we cannot specify. Therefore, it seems that the declarations about the widespread and non-exclusive possibility of spreading this channel have only a pro-forma level, similar to what was the case with the Nova Sport 3 and Nova Sport 4 channels,” he said. Nova Sport 3 and 4 are offered only by Telekom, Digi Slovakia and Orange, they have not yet reached other operators.

SAKT brings together Antik, Bbxnet, DSi Data, Lepšia TV, Orange, Satro, Telekom, 4ku and Towercom.

UPC has not yet responded.
