The James Bond franchise is one of the great cinematographic milestones that the history of the seventh art has left, although currently it is – again – a big question mark. Everything, in relation to the new actor who will step into the shoes of the iconic 007, after the end of Daniel Craig’s cycle in 2021.
Thus, the question of who will be Bond this time has been in the air since then. In this context, many names have been put on the table, and Cillian Murphy has recently been added.
The Irish actor is at his best, all thanks to Oppenheimer, which has him on the verge of winning his first Oscar. From that, his name seems to sound more and more suitable to play the famous agent created by Ian Fleming. Or at least he has the support of his colleague and compatriot, Pierce Brosnan.
The next James Bond?
During his speech at the annual Oscar Wilde Awards in Los Angeles, Brosnan told of the BBC that Murphy “would do a magnificent job as James Bond to Her Majesty’s Secret Service.”
It must be remembered that this opinion does not come from anywhere, since Brosnan played Bond between 1995 and 2002. Although, of course, the MI6 agent has been played by seven actors since the first installment starring the legendary Sean Connery.
Brosnan, however, is not the only one who seems to nominate Christopher Nolan’s great friend and collaborator. This, since similar words came from Clay Bunker, an actor who was precisely part of Oppenheimer.
“It would be great for him,” he said in conversation with The Sun. Although at the same time, he highlighted that “It’s funny, because Cillian is the nicest person; but she has that dark side that there is in Bond.
Along those lines, Bunker noted that “We forget that sometimes Bond is like the character Fleming created: a fairly dark character. The thing is that he is on the side we call good. “Cillian has that ability to exploit that.”
