The head of the department said that 94 projects were currently prepared as part of measures to reduce the amount of solid household waste. According to him, they intend to finance the projects through recurring taxes.
“We generate over 4 million tonnes of waste every year, of which only 24% is sorted and recycled. In this regard, we are solving this problem in the regions systematically and we have prepared 94 projects worth more than 200 billion tenge. So far, 46 of these projects have almost been approved by the Business Development Fund, as we are financing this with money from the recycling collection,” said Nysanbaev.
The head of the department said that factories will be built in three megacities and Kyzylorda region soon.
“Today, four departments are dealing with this issue: special documents were signed in the Kyzylorda region, and a Korean company is involved. There is also a foreign investor in three cities – Astana, Almaty and Shymkent, who are also holding negotiations and intend to build waste incineration plants,” said the head of the Ministry of Environment.
Let’s remember that the right to build 6 waste incineration plants in 2020 was won by the company Waste to Energy Kazakhstan, whose official head is Spanish citizen Amado García Diego Gabriel, but the last beneficiary of the company announced by the media as the youngest daughter of the first president of Kazakhstan Ali and Nazarbayev. Then their total value was estimated in 2020 at 185 billion tenge. They were planned to be placed in Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, Aktobe, Taraz and Atyrau, but then it was decided that construction in Atyrau and Taraz was unprofitable, Ust-Kamenogorsk and Karaganda were replaced. However, these projects were shelved in 2022.
