Who was Francis, whom Google remembers with a doodle – El Sol de México

With the aim of preserving the legacy and history of the actress and star Francis, Google honors her life through a doddle, available in the search engine this Saturday, April 6, when she would turn 66 years old.

In 1958 Francisco del Carmen García Escalante was born, in Campeche, Mexico. Since his childhood, he was inclined towards fashion, tailoring and costume design.

Francis was one of the first transvestite women who managed to fill theater venues thanks to her artistic show, very similar to those presented in Las Vegas. That was her characteristic mark and what attracted the attention of many people, who every week sought to see her show.

This not only opened doors for the LGBT+ community, but also served as a starting point so that many could accept themselves as they are, said Google Mexico product communication manager Luis Ronces, who was in charge of presenting the doodle.

“Every year we have a plan for the doodles that we are going to make especially for each country and when it is Mexico’s turn we try to nominate a list of people who have a broad enough representation to be able to represent different strata of society,” the executive stated in an interview.

The doodle will only be available this April 6, in celebration of the birthday of the drag queen, who was also known as “Fantasy Made Woman.”

The graphic shows the face of the actress, with her characteristic blonde hair, wearing a glittery dress, accompanied by purple gloves. They couldn’t miss her long earrings, her smile and being in front of a stage, which has steps with colors alluding to the gay flag.

“One of the most important points of this is to give access to the world’s information, that is Google’s mission, to make it accessible to everyone and by making this type of content that can be consulted from cell phones or computers, the user can go directly to a page that tells you the story and gives you information, that’s how we give a little more exposure to this because it’s not something that only happens in Mexico. The world can know more about our culture through this figure that is Francis,” said Ronces.

Google presented the graphic through an event where it brought together different drag figures, as well as ambassadors of the LGBT+ community.
