WHO warns of spread of omicron subtype
New York, Jan. 26, LETA – DPA. The World Health Organization (WHO) warned this week that a subtype of Covid-19 omicron, BA.2, is spreading around the world.
The WHO does not consider this to be a “worrying type”, but observes a growing number of cases of this subtype worldwide. It has already been found in the United States, but is considered rare there.
This subtype has become more common in the UK and Denmark, where it has been dubbed the “thief omicron”, but does not appear to be more lethal than previous mutations.
Early studies in the UK suggest that this may be more portable.
BA.2 has been found in more than 40 countries, including Sweden, the Philippines, India and Singapore.
