The World Health Organization has warned of an increase in the number of cases of supergonorrhea, a strain of sexually transmitted infection that is resistant to antibiotics. The disease can become incurable due to excessive use of antibiotics.
“Overuse of antibiotics in society can contribute to the emergence of antimicrobial resistance in gonorrhea. Azithromycin, a common antibiotic for the treatment of respiratory infections, was used to treat COVID-19 at the start of the epidemic. During the pandemic, STD treatment services were disrupted. This means that a large number of cases are not being diagnosed, and as a result more and more people are self-medicating. This situation may contribute to the emergence of resistance of gonorrhea to modern antibiotics recommended for its treatment, “- quotes the words of the WHO representative LADbible.
With gonorrhea, women show the following symptoms: inflammation and diseases of the cervix, frequent urination, inflammation of the vagina, usually in combination with yellow-green secretory secretions, bleeding between periods. Men have yellow discharge from the urethra, inflammation of the urinary tract, infection or inflammation of the prostate gland. Common complications of gonorrhea are pelvic inflammatory disease (in women), infertility, arthritis, meningitis, and hepatitis.
