The World Health Organization says it will evacuate more than a hundred <a href="https://www.world-today-news.com/egyptian-ministry-of-health-increases-hospital-preparedness-to-assist-gaza-strip/" title="Egyptian Ministry of Health Increases Hospital Preparedness to Assist Gaza Strip”>Palestinian patients from Gaza tomorrow. Among them are children with bombing injuries and chronic illnesses.
The patients will be taken in a convoy to Kerem Shalom, a border crossing between Gaza and Israel in southern Gaza. Such an evacuation of sick and wounded people from Gaza does not happen often.
“These are ad hoc measures. We have repeatedly called for permanent medical evacuations from Gaza,” said WHO’s Rik Peeperkorn.
Most of the patients who can leave Gaza tomorrow will be flown to the United Arab Emirates. About thirty people were to be taken to Romania.
Very little emptying
According to the WHO, between 12,000 and 14,000 Gazans are in urgent need of medical care abroad. These include patients suffering from burns, back injuries, fractures or cancer.
Since the Rafah border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt was closed in early May, only 282 patients have been evacuated from the Gaza Strip, the group reports.
Late last year, journalist Daisy Mohr joined an evacuation flight from the Gaza border region to Abu Dhabi:
