WHO Urges Western Countries to Recognize China’s Corona Vaccine

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

World Health Organization (WHO) states all corona vaccine, including artificial China, should be recognized by all countries that have reopened their borders and accepted immigrants who have been vaccinated.

This WHO statement can be seen as an urging to countries in Europe and North America which so far have not given permission to use and do not recognize the Covid-19 vaccine made in China.

Until now, WHO has given permission to use Covid-19 vaccines made by Western companies, namely Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna Inc., AstraZeneca, and Johnson & Johnson. In addition, WHO also gave permission to two vaccines made in China, Sinovac and Sinopharm.

“A policy of only allowing people who have been vaccinated from only a few manufacturers authorized by WHO to benefit from reopening travel would create two different systems, widen the vaccination gap on a global scale and exacerbate the inequities we have seen in vaccine distribution. Covid-19 will have a negative impact on economic growth,” the WHO said in a statement Associated Press, Friday (2/7).

For example, the difference in treatment of the corona vaccine in question is like the European Union’s decision last May which only recognized vaccines that were licensed by the European Medicines Agency. So far, the institute has not approved a vaccine for COVID-19 made in China.

However, the European Union said it would not prohibit its member states from allowing visitors who had been vaccinated against Covid-19 outside of those authorized by the European Medicines Agency, including the Russian-made Sputnik V vaccine.

The European Medicines Agency is reportedly considering licensing the use of the Sinovac vaccine, but the details of the process are not yet known. To date they have no intention of licensing the AstraZeneca vaccine which is made under license in India.

The policy is considered to be able to make it difficult for residents in developing countries who rely on the corona vaccine from the COVAX distribution scheme supported by the United Nations (UN).

According to the WHO, such policies undermine confidence in the already declared safe and effective Covid-19 vaccine. Because according to the WHO report, the Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines are known to be effective against the corona virus and reduce the threat of death from the disease.

Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines are made by weakening the corona virus. While vaccines made by Western companies use technology that is able to take the protein substance that wraps the virus.

Although Western countries currently rely on vaccines made by Pfizer-BioNTech or AstraZeneca, many developing countries choose to use vaccines made in China.

Countries such as the Seychelles and Bahrain that use vaccines made in China have shown that their population’s immunity level after being injected is quite good and can withstand a spike in infection cases like what is currently happening in other countries in the world.
